DALI EPICON 6
Crystal Clear Sound
The EPICON 6 is no less that DALI's new reference loudspeaker. Standing on the shoulders of virtues from the acclaimed EUPHONIA series, EPICON takes you one step closer to "the real thing".
The backbone of EPICON 6 is DALI’s new driver technology. Featuring two 6 ½“ bass woofers, the unique Linear Drive Magnet System as well as the breakthrough ribbon/soft dome hybrid tweeter the sound breaks with traditional loudspeaker conventions.
The EPICON 6 relies on a 2½-way system as – compared to the EPICON 2 – it features an additional woofer kicking in below 600Hz. However, for the highest frequencies the EPICON 6 also incorporates a ribbon tweeter as part of the hybrid tweeter, in reality turning the speaker into a ‘2½ + ½-way’ construction.
World Premiere: Linear Drive Magnet System
The new innovative in-house developed Linear Drive Magnet System eliminates four distortion factors in the driver motor system. The individual parts of the magnet system close to the voice coil consist of advanced soft magnetic compound (SMC), which eliminates variation of flux strength in the magnet gap.
The SMC material features linear magnetic properties throughout the frequency range and eliminates phase variation in the force generated within the motor system. Aluminum rings around the pole piece reduce and stabilize voice coil inductance, independent of excursion. This allows optimum conversion of voltage generated by the amplifier to current flowing through the voice coil.
Cabinet
Meticulous attention to CNC milling of the front baffle creates more space between the 7 screws, ensuring a free airflow behind the woofers. A detail supporting our low-loss design as well as our focus on timing. Each side of the EPICON 6 is constructed from 6 individual layers of MDF, all glued together, which eliminate standing waves, enhancing detail and clarity. In the EPICON 6 these are anchored to the 53 mm multi-layer MDF backbone of the cabinet.
With a thickness of 33 mm the duallayer front baffle ensures that energy from the drivers is radiated as acoustic energy, and not as vibrations in the cabinet. The curved shape of the front baffle is also a contributing factor in ensuring a stable acoustic platform. Internally the cabinet for the EPICON 6 is divided in two identical sized chambers, allowing tuning of the cabinet to be done identically yet completely independently for each of the two woofers. Thus you will find two bass ports on the back of the cabinet located as nearby the woofers as possible. Both ports are convex tapered in both ends to minimize port turbulence.
At the very bottom of the cabinet, however, you will see that the hardwired crossover is mounted in its own enclosure as well - free from the dynamic variation of cabinet pressure inside the bass reflex enclosures.

Sound Design DALI Speakers
The primary function of any loudspeaker is to convert the electrical signal from the amplifier into a realistic audio experience in the listening room.
Any distortion or coloration of the original signal by drivers or enclosures is by definition degradation of the sound.
DALI loudspeakers are designed in accordance with our fundamental acoustic and electro-acoustic principles, which together bring you even closer to the full impact of a live music experience.
1. 3D Sound :
Low-loss technology is a key characteristic of DALI loudspeakers. By choosing our "building materials" with great care, we make sure that no signal is lost or changed on its way through the loudspeaker.
You experience a richly detailed, true-to-life sound, spread evenly throughout the room.
When listening to DALI loudspeakers, you will not be able to point out the exact location of the loudspeaker. You hear exactly the sound the artist intended. For example, if the artist wants you to hear sound coming from certain angles, DALI loudspeakers master this perfectly. DALI low-loss technology, in combination with Time Coherence, creates true 3D Audio in stereo and in surround.
3. Hand Crafted :
We have a very high standard that is ensured by a Quality Management System.
Among many other things, this system ensures that no loudspeaker leaves our factory without having been rigorously tested, both acoustically and visually.
After a thorough inspection, including a complete electro-acoustic test measurement procedure, on most speakers the person who assembled the loudspeaker signs a label on the back of the speaker to prove that the speaker has been tested and approved.
4. Time Coherence :
When tuning the performance of every DALI loudspeaker, our engineers put great effort into the "teamwork" of the drivers, crossover and the cabinet.
This allows you to experience focused, coherent sound without any unwanted interaction between the drivers.
The sound from the different drivers is synchronised to arrive at the ear at the same time. Studies show that loudspeakers with excellent time coherence deliver enhanced sonic realism.
Time coherence is a must in any DALI speaker.
DALI makes it easy to integrate your loudspeakers in any room.
We carefully select driver materials and geometry as well as design the crossover especially to achieve wide dispersion.
DALI loudspeakers fill a wider area of the room with smooth, integrated sound. We design our loudspeakers for optimal frequency response (consistent sound pressure regardless of frequency), even for listeners seated off-centre.
This is important, as one rarely sits directly in front of the loudspeaker when listening to music and as the sound from the speaker arriving at the ear is always mixed with reflections from the surfaces in the room.
6. Low Resonance Cabinet :
When sound is created by moving air, it is reflected off room surfaces and inside the loudspeaker.
Reflections press on the rear of the drivers, standing waves bounce back and forth between cabinet surfaces; structural resonances cause panels to vibrate.
For the most correct and true-to-life sound, internal reflections and vibrations must be reduced as much as possible. DALI achieves this through optimal cabinet design based on the finest - sometimes very complex materials and geometry.
In many cases, we also use strong internal bracing and separate chambers to effectively reduce coloration.

Impedance is the measure of the resistance of the loudspeaker at different frequencies and should ideally be the same at all frequencies.
Smooth, even impedance means better working conditions for the amplifier, resulting in higher resolution. The job of the amplifier and loudspeaker is to reproduce the signal exactly as it is, adding nothing and removing nothing.
If the impedance of a loudspeaker changes at different frequencies, the amplifier encounters constantly varying resistance, making it much harder to follow the signal/music.
Linear impedance - a stable load for the amplifier - is a high priority at DALI and is achieved by fine-tuning every aspect of the speaker design.

Penempatan Speaker Yang Baik Pada Ruangan

Masalah yang paling mendasar beberapa ruang dengar adalah minimnya penempatan loudspeaker. Penempatan speaker yang benar adalah salah satu faktor yang sangat penting didalam mendapatkan suara yang bagus diruangan anda. Keseimbangan nada rendah dan tinggi ditentukan oleh penempatan speaker. Besar-kecil dan kualitas bass, latar musik yang lebar dan tiga dimensi, kebersihan nada tengah, artikulasi dan tampilan musik. Untuk itu kita perlu menguasai 6 jurus penempatan speaker dan posisi dengar untuk mendapat suara terbaik.

1. Menemukan sweet spot yang optimal
A. Titik dengar dan loudspeaker harus membentuk segi tiga sama sisi. Jika tidak anda tidak akan pernah mendengar soundstaging yang bagus dan menakjubkan. Faktor penting dalam mendapatkan suara yang bagus adalah hubungan geometriks dua speaker dan pendengar. Pendengar harus duduk tepat dengan keduaspeaker, jarak pendengar ke speaker sebaiknya lebih besar disbanding dengan jarak antara speaker. Gambar 1 menunjukan speaker dan posisi dengar. Singkatnya posisi dengar dimana musik akan terfokus jelas dengan latar musik yang terbentang dinamai: sweet spot.
B. Semakin besar jarak antar speaker akan memberi efek latar musik yang semakin luas. Pada tahap ini anda dipersilakan untuk melakukan eksperimen untuk mendapatkan latar musik yang optimal.
C. Semakin besar jarak titik dengar ke speaker memberikan fokus suara yang lebih baik. Untuk tahap ini anda harus melakukan beberapa kali ekperimen untuk mendapatkan fokus musik yang optimal.
D. Tetapi sayangnya point B dan C saling bertolak belakang. Jika anda mendapatkan latar musik yang lebar maka fokus musik menjadi kurang tegas dan sebaliknya. Untuk itu anda harus melakukan beberapa kali eksperimen sehingga didapat hasil yang optimal antara latar musik yang lebar dan fokus musik yang tegas.
2. Menemukan keseimbangan nada rendah dan nada tinggi yang optimal
A. Jarak speaker ke dinding bagian belakang speaker mempengaruhi besar-kecil nada rendah. Semakin dekat speaker ke dinding akan memperkuat repro nada rendah bass membuat repro musik menjadi lebih berat. Tetapi ada beberapa rancangan speaker khusus untuk didekatkan ke dinding; mereka memerlukan penguatan untuk keseimbangan frekuensi. Suara loudspeaker terdengar kecil jika ditempatkan jauh dari dinding. Ketika speaker ditempatkan dekat dinding enegi bass akan terpantul ke ruang dengar dengan fase yang sama dengan suara bass dari speaker. Artinya pantulan nada rendah memperkuat nada rendah yang keluar dari speaker.
B. Semakin kecil jarak speaker dinding samping juga memperkuat nada rendah. Penempatan yang tepat akan memberikan keseimbangan frekuensi musik. Penempatan yang kurang tepat menyebabkan penggemukan pada nada tertentu dan kolorasi nada rendah dan mid.
C. Jarak speaker ke dinding bagian belakang speaker dan jarak speaker ke dinding samping tidak boleh sama besar. Yang harus dihindari adalah jarak speakerke dinding samping jangan 1/3 jarak speaker ke dinding belakang. Sebaiknya jika jarak speaker ke dinding samping adalah 60 cm maka jarak speaker ke dinding belakang sebaiknya 80 cm. B. Resonansi ruang yang sering disebut standing wave memberikan seperti gelombang air di dalam ember yang dijatuhkan setetes air. Pola standing wave ini memberikan distribusi keseimbangan frekuensi yang berbeda beda. Ada posisi null atau peak. Biasanya posisi ideal speaker di letakan pada 1/5 panjang ruang atau 1/3 panjang ruang dan posisi titik dengar adalah 2/3 dari panjang ruang. Pada posisi tersebut akan terdengar suara vocal dengan jernih tanpa diselimuti dengungan bass dan fokus musik dan latar musik yang jelas dan jernih.
4. Menemukan suara tiga dimensi yang memilki lapisan – lapisan musik
Secara umum jarak dinding ke belakang loudspeaker mempengaruhi kedalaman soundstage. Semakin besar jarak speaker ke dinding semakin dalam sound stage yang kita dengar. Tariklah speaker keluar beberapa puluh centi menjauhi dinding kita dapat mendengar perbedaannya antara sound stage yang tumpuk menumpuk dan sound stage musik yang membentuk proyeksi suara tiga dimensi yang dalam. Akan tampak musisi lapis depan, kemudian musisi lapis tengah dan musisi lapis belakang. Sayangnya banyak perangkat audio yang ditaruh di ruang tamu atau ruang keluarga yang tidak memungkinkan untuk meletakan speaker jauh dari dinding.

Besaran pengaruh perbedaan suara ini berbeda beda pada masing masing speaker. Ada speaker dengan tweeter yang aliran suara yang melebar memiliki pengaruh yang kecil terhadap perbedaan tinggi tempat duduk. Pilihlah sebuah kursi dengar dimana kedudukan telinga anda di posisi optimal sumbu tweeter akan membantu mendapatkan keseimbangan nada tinggi.
6. Menemukan keseimbangan frekuensi, latar musik dan fokus musik dengan toe in.
Terakhir adalah toe in. Toe-in menghadapkan speaker ke dalam kearah pendengar. Tidak ada aturan yang khusus untuk melakukan toe-in. Anda dipersilakan untuk melakukan beberapa eksperimen. Beberapa speaker memerlukan toe-in dan beberapa speaker tidak perlu. Efek toe-in mempengaruhi aspek musik dalam hal keseimbangan frekuensi tinggi dan mid, fokus musik, soundstage, suasana ruang dimana musik direkam , dan suara menjadi langsung.
Biasanya speaker terdengar lebih bright jika kita melakukan toe in. Jika suara yang keluar dari speaker cenderung butek anda dapat melakukan toe in untuk mendapat repro yang lebih bright. Beberapa model speaker dirancang untuk didengar tanpa toe-in akan menjadi sangat bright jika di letakan dengan toe in.
Prinsip dasarnya adalah speaker toe-in dirancang bersuara optimal dengan energi suara langsung lebih banyak sampai ke telinga pendengar dan energi suara pantulan lebih sedikit Sedang speaker non toe-in berlaku sebaliknya.
